Art and fashion, the material for ideas ... The painter Gudrun Jakubeit and her partners Maria Valda and Carolina Oliveira, brazilian mother and daughter leading the fashion studio VM Atelier in Lisbon - Portugal, have together ventured an exciting international crossover this summer: they have founded the new fashion label KUNST MODA.

If you look into art history, you will find many famous examples of artists (Frida Kahlo, Salvador Dali, Niki de Saint Phalle,...) creating their own fashion and even wearing their own look as a trademark: "L'art c'est moi" - I am art.

In this crossover, the most diverse dimensions flow together: rapports are created from the artworks of the painter Gudrun Jakubeit by Karol Farias (brazilian fashion designer based in Spain), which is then printed on high-quality Portuguese linen. Maria Valda and Carolina Oliveira transform it into contemporary wearable fashion pieces based on the model lines drawn by Jorge Nascimento (fashion designer in Brazil).

The new fashion of KUNST MODA can give attractive answers to the questions of female empowerment: "Here I am" in the sense of body positivity. Whoever wears KUNST MODA is automatically enveloped by the creative and life-affirming energy that the artists have put into each handmade piece and into the creative process, full of passion and love.

This crossover of art and fashion can do much more: clothes become real works of art that playfully transcend the boundaries of what can be worn and inspire surrealist mind games, socio-political statements or futuristic dreams.

In the exhibition, hand-painted linen is used to create an art dress that revisits artist Gudrun Jakubeit's idea from 2020 and 2021: the diversity and metamorphosis of living beings. The mythical act of disguise can enable a transition into other forms of existence - the dress made of hand-painted fabric shows the transformation into an insect woman, the future life form on our planet.
